What is modern ABA?

ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) is an evidence-based approach to building meaningful skills — communication, connection, independence, and the everyday routines that help a child feel confident at home, at school, and in the community.

Modern ABA looks very different from the rigid, drill-based approaches some parents remember. Sessions are child-led, built on trust and genuine connection, and they respect your child’s voice and comfort. The goal is never to change who your child is — it’s to build skills that open doors.

1
Communication Sharing wants, needs & ideas
2
Social Connection Play, turn-taking & friendships
3
Emotional Regulation Tools for big feelings
4
Daily Living Routines & self-care skills
5
Independence Doing more on their own terms
6
Flexibility Navigating change & transitions

Every family starts with a consultation with Sam, our Registered Behaviour Analyst. From there, a clinical intake helps us get to know your child and set goals together, Sam designs a program tailored to your child, and 1:1 sessions are delivered by an Instructor Therapist under her guidance.

Step 1 · Getting Started

Consultation & Clinical Intake

Getting to Know Your Child

It all starts with a consultation with Sam to talk through your child’s needs and whether ABA is the right fit. Before regular sessions begin, we meet with your family to learn about your child — their strengths, interests, what’s working, and where they’d like more support. Together, we set meaningful goals that reflect your family’s priorities, so every session has a clear purpose from day one.

Step 2 · 1:1 Sessions

1:1 ABA Therapy

Instructor Therapists, Guided by an RBA

Your child works one-on-one with an Instructor Therapist in sessions built around their interests, pace, and goals, following a program designed and overseen by Sam, our Registered Behaviour Analyst. Learning happens through natural routines and real-life moments, with progress reviewed regularly by Sam and plans adjusted as your child grows. Families are partners throughout, with practical strategies to carry new skills into everyday life.

Questions parents ask about ABA

Who will work with my child?

Your child’s program is designed and overseen by Sam, a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) — a regulated professional in Ontario with specialized training in behaviour analysis. Day-to-day 1:1 sessions are delivered by trained Instructor Therapists who work closely with Sam, so every goal and strategy is grounded in both evidence and experience.

How is modern ABA different?

Older approaches often centred on repetition and compliance. Modern ABA is child-led, respects your child’s comfort and consent, and focuses on skills that matter to your child and family — never on making them look or act a certain way.

Who is ABA a good fit for?

Children and youth who would benefit from support with communication, social connection, emotional regulation, daily routines, or independence. Many families come to us with an autistic child or a child with another developmental difference — but our focus is always on skills, not labels.

What does a session look like?

Every session is 1:1 and shaped around your child. Depending on their goals, it might include practising communication or social skills, working through everyday routines, or building tools for big feelings — always at a pace that feels right.

Is my family involved?

Absolutely. Families are partners in the process. We set goals together, keep you updated on progress, and share practical strategies so the skills your child builds in session carry into everyday life at home.
