Meet the Founders

That’s the truth behind The Skill Studio, and it’s the reason we do this work the way we do.

Kristy, Kim, Kelly, and Katie grew up in the same house, went through school together, and somehow ended up building this together too. Kristy, Kim, and Katie are Ontario Certified Teachers, each holding a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Education, with Kristy also holding a PhD. Between the three of them, they’ve spent decades in public school classrooms, working with thousands of students. Kelly leads our therapeutic services. She holds a Master of Arts and an MBA, and is both a Registered Social Worker and a Registered Psychotherapist.

Long before any of those letters came after our names, though, we were just four kids with our own struggles. Tutors. Speech language pathologists. Therapists. Coaches. Mentors. A whole village of people who believed in us before we believed in ourselves. We know exactly what that village makes possible, because we are living proof of it.

Now that we have children of our own, we started The Skill Studio to build that same village around yours, under one roof.

Why We Started The Skill Studio

Schools are wonderful, and teachers work hard for every student in front of them. But classrooms are busy, and even the best teacher can’t give every child the one-on-one time they sometimes need. That’s where we come in.

We named this place The Skill Studio on purpose. A skill isn’t something a kid either has or doesn’t. It’s something you build, one deliberate rep at a time, same as we did in our own childhoods. That’s the whole model.

We also believe your child deserves a specialist, not a generalist. Every associate on our team goes deep in one area, so you’re never handed someone who’s a little bit good at everything. And our own kids sit in these same chairs, with these same associates. We wouldn’t ask you to trust us with something we don’t trust ourselves.

Our Roots

None of this exists without our parents, Leanne and Bill. Everything we know about showing up for a child, patiently and without ever giving up on their potential, we learned from watching them do it for us, again and again, for years. The Skill Studio is our way of honouring that.
